Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue!

This is a tradition on wedding days i've very often seen on television...and i have always wondered why? what does it mean and why does the bride has to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...i like the idea and i've just found out what this tradition is all about!!

So for the persons interested in knowing, here's the explanation:
The custom comes from an Old English rhyme...it probably began in the Victorian Era. Today, traditional brides feature one item from each category in their wedding ensembles, tote them down the aisle, or just keep them on hand for good measure.

Something old is for continuity
Something new is for optimism in th future
Something borrowed is for borrowed happiness
Something blue is for fidelity, good fortune and love

Actually the whole sentence used to be:
Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

and a sixpence was a coin that was minted in Britain from 1551 to 1967. It was made of silver and worth six pennies.

I like these kind of traditions...but is it really enough to make things work in a marriage??!
